The Ministry of Justice Safer Cell Programme
The Ministry of Justice Safer Cell Programme assesses products for use in custodial cells. Products tested under the programme have been evaluated specifically for the custodial environment, rather than for healthcare or general institutional use.
Where applicable, we identify products that have been independently tested under the Safer Cell Programme, so that specifiers working to that standard can identify them quickly.
Specifying to the programme
If your specification requires Safer Cell tested products, our team can identify which items in the range qualify, supply the supporting documentation, and advise where an equivalent is available if a specified product is unavailable or discontinued.
Testing status is one input to a specification, not the whole picture. Anti-ligature design features are not intended to replace or substitute the need for appropriate supervision and risk assessment.
